Not every good decision looks good immediately
Some of our best design decisions looked like mistakes for the first few weeks. Simplifying a feature made the product feel emptier before it felt clearer. Slowing down a launch to fix a foundational issue looked like falling behind before it looked like avoiding a much larger delay later. Judging decisions purely by their immediate optics rewards the wrong instincts.
We’ve started asking a different question when a change feels underwhelming right after shipping: is this underwhelming because it’s wrong, or underwhelming because it hasn’t had time to compound yet? The two feel identical in the moment and are almost never the same thing.
Patience as a design skill
It’s rarely taught alongside typography or layout, but patience — the willingness to withhold judgment until a decision has had room to actually play out — has quietly become one of the more useful skills on the team.
